HD Holidays & Merry Smutmas recs for Lu

Yep, not dead. Real life's just been kicking my ass with all her might.

Powerful Men by Frayach (R, Rentboy, character death)
The Battle of Hogwarts was lost, but after ten years of tyranny and terror, Harry Potter has finally defeated Voldemort. Slowly, those who suffered the most under Voldemort’s reign – the half-bloods, the Muggleborns and the blood traitors – emerge from their enslavement, literally and figuratively, seeking refuge and comfort and healing from a group of volunteers, organized by Harry’s friend Hermione Granger, working out of the half-ruined St. Giles-Without-Cripplegate Church. New friendships are kindled, laughter shared, and secrets spoken, and all the while a bell tolls. The final message from one man to another, whose deepest secret only now does he understand.

Angsty, very very angsty - but beautifully written, with an interesting POV and plot idea.

Unrequited by Lillithium (PG-13, HP/DM, DM/OMC)
Draco's wet dream, potion-induced.

Yup, another depressing one, but then you know I'm a sucker for angst. And Lilliyhium's art which is, as always, breathtaking.

An Act of Simple Devotion by Blamebrampton (R, HP/DM, HP/GW)
It’s a age-old story. You fancy a boy and you think he fancies you. Sure there are problems – attacks on former Death Eaters, crazed tabloid journalists and your girlfriend – but you have a cunning plan. Now if he’d only explain the L. Ron Hubbard-like references …

*blabbers nonsensically* I love this fic. Sure, it's not perfect (Harry's attitude toward Draco changes so much he sounds a bit OC) but I love the writing, the way she frames long stretches of Draco's POV with short snatches of Harry's, the way she deals with the post-war world, the sense of inevitability. And she manages to write a Ginny I actually like, incredible as it sounds.

Ten Weeks by Emmagrant01 (NC-17, HP/DM, HP/GW) ♥ ♥
Five years after the defeat of Voldemort, Harry Potter is dying. But there is one person who can save him.

More Angst. But it's a realistic, gentle, touching portrait Harry's confusion, fear and determination to enjoy the time he has left. His cluelesness in relationships, his reaction to the debilitating illness and the subtle shift in both his and Draco's feelings. Maybe my fav. of this round of HD Holidays.

A Change of Life by Acromantular (NC-17, HP/GW, DM/MB, HP/DM)
When Draco sees Harry on Platform 9 3/4, everything changes. Fast.

After all that angst here's a story that makes me smile. There's Veela!Draco, sexcrazed!Ginny, Allergic-to-everything!Millie and great explanation for Draco's thinning hair. Oh, and everyboody seems to know what's going on befor Hermione has a chance to show off her all-knowing skills. Poor dear.

Vale Sanare by Rurounihime (NC-17)
Draco’s world gains a new component, just when he thought he’d sorted everything out.

The war left both Harry and Draco more than a bit fucked up, both physically and emotionally. Maybe things won't ever get normal again, maybe they'll never be perfect, but at least they can help each other and make the best of what they have. Welcome to the real word, where there are no knights in shining armours and not even love, or magic, can solve all your problems. The trick is simply to live the best life you possibly can.

The Simple Joy of Living by Mahaliem (R)
When Viktor is attacked, Harry and Draco work together to find the culprit.

AKA The Secret Chamber of Love. Plot driven and funny, with Slytherins acting like proper Slytherind, Ginny leaving Harry for fitter greener pastures, and everybody (males, females and teapots) crushing on Lucius.

Own Two Legs by Spark of Chaos (NC-17) ♥ ♥
Suddenly, he wants nothing more than to absorb her persistent ability to put one foot in front of the other and move forward. Not look back. He wants to be able, like her, to live.

Spark of Chaos manages to write an unforgettable story despite (or pherhaps because of) the complex structure, switching POVs and the lack of any reassuring fandom cliches. Ther's no Great Love, no Villain or easy character bashing. Both Harry and Draco are relatively happy with the lives they made for themselves, despite the difficult post-war years. They love their wives (Miriam is one of the most likable Mrs Malfoy I've seen after that dam epilogue came out) and they love their children. Yet, in spite of it all, there's this *thing*, this connection that keeps them tied both to each oter and to the past, while everybody else seems to have been able to get on and start new lives. A connection that lasts over thirty years.
